How do I balance creating commercial work with creating art for myself?
Create a business engine of work that sells consistently and powers your ability to make other things. Having a product line that runs somewhat automatically gives you the freedom and financial runway to then create work just for yourself. Not everything you make needs to be marketed or sold. Make plenty of work for your own mental health and creative fulfillment that never hits social media or your shop. The key is being practical about what brings in income so you have the time, space, and materials to also create purely for yourself. The commercial work funds the personal work.
