Why shouldn't I just respond to comments with 'thank you' or heart emojis?
Marketing—getting attention and comments on your work—is the hardest part of building an art business. When you’ve done all that work to earn a comment showing interest in your work, responding with just ‘thank you’ or emojis wastes that opportunity. You’ve already invested the effort to get someone’s attention and interest; now you need to attempt to start a selling conversation. Otherwise, you’re self-sabotaging and will never see the return on all your marketing effort. The hardest thing is getting the comment in the first place, so don’t let that opportunity pass without at least trying to start a meaningful conversation about purchasing.
