What's happening with art sales and galleries during the pandemic?

When the pandemic hit, art sales in the home decor section exploded - everything is selling at crazy clips. However, traditional channels are struggling: art shows are closed, and the majority of galleries are closed or out of business. Gallery owners are in difficult situations - laying off employees, renegotiating leases, unsure when they can have shows again, and needing to sell art just to get employees back. Despite these challenges to traditional venues, art is still being sold - it’s just shifted online. If you can’t get your art to market through digital channels like live video and online sales, you’re in trouble because the traditional paths are largely unavailable.
