How much of a body of work do I need before I start marketing and selling?

One. You need one piece. This is a critical point: don’t wait for perfection, don’t wait until you have enough work, don’t wait until you know your niche or have a business bank account set up. That ‘when’ thinking — when I have this, when I figure out that — turns hours into days, days into months, months into years, and meanwhile no marketing is happening. You’re never going to be perfect or completely ready. You already have enough to start. Begin marketing now with what you have, because waiting is just another form of avoiding the hard work that actually grows the business.
