Why is sharing your personal story so important in art marketing?
Your story is the program; your art is the commercials. People do business with people they know, like, and trust—especially in art at $500, more so at $5,000, even more at $50,000. If a piece will live in someone’s home for 30 years, they’re buying it from you as a person. Even more powerfully, people do business with people they have things in common with: shared hometown, faith, interests, values, hobbies. If you hide behind the work, your collector has nothing to bond with. Your story is why the work gets bought. Treat your marketing like a conversation, not a megaphone or press release. Let people see who you are.
