How can running live art shows from home compare to doing the traditional art fair circuit?

The efficiency difference is dramatic. Consider everything involved in a traditional art fair: getting your booth from storage, preparing samples, loading inventory, driving to the show, setting up, standing for eight hours daily, hotel costs, meals, breaking down, and driving home exhausted. You could run 20 live art shows from your home or studio in the same time and energy it takes to do a few physical shows. You’d have more energy afterward, no booth fees, and no travel expenses. You do need proper inventory to make this work, but the contrast in time, energy, and cost is substantial. This doesn’t mean abandoning in-person shows entirely—they still have value—but the home-based option is remarkably more efficient.
