How do I price my art when doing my first validation sale?

For your first validation sale, don’t worry about settling on perfect long-term pricing. Pick a reasonable price you think the piece would normally sell for, then offer a significant discount to make it an irresistible deal. For example, if you think a piece should sell for $500, offer it at $150 for your launch. Make it clear this is a one-time celebration discount and you’ll never offer prices this low again. The goal is to remove price as a barrier so you can test whether people actually want your art. Once you’ve validated demand, you can establish proper pricing going forward.
