What makes the 'starving artist' problem so significant and persistent?
The starving artist problem is a millennia-old problem—literally thousands of years old. When you think about it, how many problems exist today that have persisted for a thousand years? Very few. This tells you just how serious and deeply rooted this problem is. In the art industry specifically, there’s a tremendous amount of bad information, people going down wrong paths, and following wrong advice. The historical biggest problem for individual photographers and artists has been going down the wrong path from the start. If you have the wrong business model and bad inputs coming at you from the beginning, you’re basically dead on arrival. You might think you’re going somewhere, but you’re actually not. Solving this requires correcting the path upfront and creating many more successful artists who can build sustainable businesses as individual solo entrepreneurs.
