Why do artists get stuck in a cycle of creating but not selling?

It’s like the New Year’s resolution problem. Artists create a body of work because they’re inspired and love creating. Then not enough work gets done to actually get that work in front of enough eyeballs to see if it will sell. Eventually the artist stops, takes a break, gets bored with that old body of work, and creates the next body of work. It’s a vicious cycle of rotating through bodies of work and never getting enough eyeballs on any of them. This happens because artists are solopreneurs wearing all the hats—chef, receptionist, waiter, busboy, everything. Something has to give. You need to focus on creating the art and doing the marketing that only you can do, and find ways to take the other jobs off your plate so you can stay consistent.
