What's the proven paradigm for how art should be displayed and sold online?

Your website should mimic the art gallery or museum experience as closely as possible. This paradigm has worked across all cultures and languages for centuries—minimalist design, monochromatic (usually white) walls, art beautifully illuminated, clear information about each piece, and visible pricing. There’s proven alchemy in this paradigm that humans universally understand. The biggest mistake artists make is treating their website like a blank canvas, adding fonts, colors, slideshows, spinning elements, and walls of text. When you do this, it becomes nearly impossible for visitors to actually see the art or realize it’s for sale. Your website should clearly communicate what visitors are there to do and why they should buy. Strip away everything that doesn’t serve that gallery experience.
