I feel overwhelmed by trying to be consistent with marketing. How do I push through?
Every artist feels this. That feeling won’t go away, it’s annoying, and you have to suffer through it. You don’t want to be consistent, and nobody does. You know which year is the worst? The first one. For the first time, you’re marketing something for as long as you have—most people have never done that in their lives. The beginning is a grind. It just is. But think of it like a muscle: maybe you can only do one push-up today. Great—do one a day, every day. Next thing you know, you’re doing ten, then a hundred. Start small: commit to posting something non-art-related two days a week. Just about who you are, what you do, what you care about. It’s hard, but it’s like anything else in life—you build the capacity over time. And remember: you probably have 30, 40, 50+ years left of creating. The suffering you do in the first year or two pays off over decades. That’s the long game that makes it worth it.
