Someone emailed saying their employer wants to purchase digital rights to my images. How do I know if this is legitimate?
Trust your gut feeling. If something seems too good to be true, it almost always is. Unsolicited emails from strangers claiming to represent unnamed employers who want to purchase rights to your work—especially using vague language like ‘visual digital rights’—are almost always scams. Legitimate art buyers and licensing companies don’t operate this way. Don’t even reply to these messages. Run away from offers that seem too easy or too good, especially when they come out of nowhere from people who don’t know you.
