Why should I think about my art business in terms of decades rather than months?
When you stretch your lens from weeks and months to years and decades, it completely changes how you approach the business. Most artists have decades plus of productive years ahead of them. Thinking long-term isn’t about having permission to procrastinate—it’s about understanding that building real value takes time, just like a retirement account. The deposits you make early (in your case, the new customers you acquire each year) are what create the foundation for significant growth later. The new customers you acquire in your early years compound over time as some become collectors, ultimately determining your business’s revenue ceiling.
