What should I do if I'm brand new with no email list or social following to target?

Start with contests. Running contests is the fastest, most effective way to build your email list and social following from zero. Artists starting with no subscribers can run one contest and gain 100–400 email addresses; after three or four contests, you can have a couple thousand emails and 500–1,000 social followers. Once you have that warm audience, you can begin running the warm-traffic ad strategy. Contests are the foundation—build your audience first, then activate it with ads.
