What is the philosophy behind 'work less, make more' as an artist?

The goal should be to work less and make more by increasing your rates and being selective about opportunities. Rather than taking on more and more work at lower rates, find what your limits are by gradually raising prices. For example, it’s better to do one speaking engagement at double your current rate than two engagements at your current rate - you make the same money with half the time investment and travel burden. This applies to art sales as well: regularly test raising your prices. Keep increasing until you see demand drop, because you may be significantly undervaluing your work. This philosophy requires confidence in your value and a willingness to potentially turn down opportunities that don’t meet your rate, but it’s essential for sustainable growth and avoiding burnout.
