I don't want to share what I had for breakfast or personal details on social media. Do I have to do that to succeed?
Forget all the objections about not wanting to share meals or feeling like your life isn’t interesting enough. The real question is simply: where are the fish? Twenty or thirty years ago, the fish were in galleries and local fairs. Then they were in newspapers, then radio, then TV. Now the fish are on social media platforms — that’s where the attention is. This isn’t about sharing your breakfast; it’s about being contrarian and going where your potential buyers actually are. You don’t have to post about your personal life if you don’t want to, but you do need to show up where billions of people are spending their time every single day. The good news is most artists are terrified of social media, which means there’s less competition than you think. You just need to worry about your own consistent output, not what anyone else is doing.
