How should I use social media to market my art if I haven't been sharing anything about myself personally?

Social media marketing must go beyond just posting your art constantly—that’s the ‘art gatling gun’ approach and it doesn’t work. Instead, share your story: where you grew up, what makes you tick, your journey, your struggles, your sense of humor, your hobbies. People are wired to do business with those they know, like, and trust. If someone can’t learn anything about you beyond your art, they’ll keep scrolling. Art sales are about 50% meritocracy on the work and 50% what people know about you as a person. Share the real, messy human journey—not just the polished highlights. The algorithm rewards authentic, interesting stories with engagement. Don’t lead with credentials or accolades; lead with genuine personal connection. That’s what gets people to stop and actually look at your art instead of driving past it.
