I was told that mixing personal posts with artwork makes me look unprofessional. Is that true?
That’s completely false, and it usually comes from someone who’s never sold anything or from a traditional gallerist with outdated thinking. In fact, in today’s market, the artists most likely to get into galleries are the ones with the most social media followers, because gallerists are lazy—they’d rather take someone who can draw attention on their own rather than having to develop foot traffic for the artist. Your art alone is not enough. There are countless historical examples proving this, from Banksy to Van Gogh. The story and the person behind the art is what makes it sellable. You need to share enough of yourself that people can know, like, and trust you.
