Why is customer acquisition more important than the sale amount?
The key metric is the number of new customers you acquire per year, not the dollar amount of each sale. It doesn’t matter if someone spends $3 or $3,000—what matters is getting them into your ecosystem. Art is a collector-driven business. Some customers turn into collectors who come back and buy again and again. If you don’t get the initial sale because you only offer expensive options, those people are gone forever. Someone might not be ready to discuss wall art with their partner right now, but they’ll buy a cell phone case, calendar, or greeting card. Now you have their email, they have your art in their life, and it’s much easier to get them to purchase again than to acquire a first-time buyer. That small purchase is your foot in the door.
