How does postcard marketing compare to other traditional advertising options for artists?

Postcards are significantly more affordable and practical than most traditional advertising options available to artists. Getting featured in trade publications, interior design magazines, or major newspapers is extremely expensive. Radio spots are ineffective for visual art. Billboards are costly and location-dependent. Even digital alternatives like properly targeted ads on Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube require substantial work on creative development and targeting, plus ongoing budget. Postcards, by contrast, cost as little as $40 to reach 250 homes, require minimal technical skill to design using free tools, and can be deployed within a week. The barrier to entry is very low, and unlike most traditional advertising that feels impersonal or corporate, postcards from a local artist feel personal and generate genuine interest rather than being immediately dismissed.
