How should I display and price limited editions versus open edition prints?
Limited editions add perceived value and exclusivity. You decide how many to offer—maybe 5, maybe 100. The system automatically tracks sales and counts down until they sell out, then marks the edition as sold. You sign and number each one, which elevates the value. When an order comes in, you receive it from your printer, sign and number it (some artists include a handwritten note), then ship it to the customer. Because they’re limited, signed, numbered, and not always available, you charge more than open edition prints. One photographer sold his first limited edition within 3 days, and the buyer was thrilled specifically because it was signed and numbered by the creator.
