Why do artists fail on social media even when posting consistently?
Most artists run what I call the ‘Art Gatling Gun’—post after post after post of nothing but their art. Art, process videos, finished pieces, art on walls, more art. This approach is destined to fail because you’re essentially running nothing but commercials all day, and nobody wants to watch a TV channel that only shows commercials. No one likes being sold to constantly. Human beings make purchasing decisions based on ‘know, like, and trust’—we do business with people we know, like, and find entertaining. If someone visits your profile and can’t learn anything about YOU as a person, there’s no room for know, like, and trust to develop. No one knows, likes, and trusts a JPEG. Your art is the commercial—you need programming (who you are, your story, your personality) to make people want to watch. Social media is meant to be a conversation, not a loop of commercials.
