Why do I need a range of pricing in my art business?

Having a range of pricing is mandatory for a growing art business. There are only three ways to grow: acquire new customers, get existing customers to buy again, and increase your average order value. A customer is created when a credit card is swiped, regardless of the dollar amount — whether it’s $1 or $100,000. Here’s the reality: An artist with only originals priced $300-$5,000 might sell 7-10 pieces in a great year, ending with 7-10 customers. That same artist with a range of pricing — easy entry points, non-wall art items — would likely acquire 50-70 customers instead. Since art is a collector-driven business and collectors who buy once keep buying, having more customers means more people to market to for repeat purchases. This is why successful artists like Wyland start prices at $55 and Gray Malin at $45. Range of pricing creates more customer acquisition opportunities and that’s the foundation for business growth.
