Is taking a break from social media actually beneficial for my art business?

Taking strategic breaks from social media can be incredibly beneficial. When you step away completely—no posting, no scrolling—you often realize your trust and focus had shifted to the algorithm instead of to your own creative vision and business strategy. During a social media break, you can refocus on what you truly want from your business, not how it looks to others. Creativity thrives in those in-between moments where most of us would be checking our phones. When you’re quiet with your own thoughts instead of constantly consuming content, you can generate far more original ideas. One artist generated three full pages of collection ideas during a month off social media—ideas that came from within rather than from scrolling. That said, social media remains a powerful business tool, especially for artists working from home. It’s about finding the right balance and using it intentionally rather than letting it consume your creative energy.
