Should I do time-limited print drops, or is that too aggressive and pushy?
Selling art is a math-based business. A discount plus scarcity equals humans more likely to take action — that’s just how buying psychology works. Time-limited drops have both elements, so yes, they can work. But here’s the critical part: you need to make sure the car is running before you put a fancy spoiler on it. Sales techniques can help, but if you don’t have demand in the first place, it’ll just be crickets and you’re adding friction for no reason. I see artists chase shiny objects like this when nobody’s buying anything anyway. If you do have an audience, I actually like time-limited drops and scarcity tactics like Dutch auctions (first piece at cost, price increases $100 with each sale, etc.). There’s a lot of smart tradecraft you can use, but you need the underlying demand first.
