I'm brand new to selling art online. What should I focus on in my first year?

Pace yourself and manage your expectations. Don’t try to do everything at once. Focus on building a solid foundation rather than obsessing over website aesthetics or minor details—those will change many times. Look for progress month-to-month and six months to six months rather than expecting overnight success. Most importantly, get comfortable with social media: post consistently, put yourself in your content even if it feels uncomfortable at first, and be authentic. Don’t compare yourself to others—everyone’s journey is different. If you have an early big win, celebrate it but don’t build your whole business plan around it; outliers happen, and steady growth matters more. Treat this like a marathon, not a sprint.
