What is a collector, and why are they important to an art business?

A collector is someone who purchases seven or more pieces from you over their lifetime. They’re the holy grail of the art business because they provide recurring revenue. To get a collector, you must first make that initial sale—which is why having lower price points is critical for customer acquisition. Once someone buys from you once, it’s significantly easier to get them to buy again than to acquire a brand new customer. This is why building and maintaining your customer email list is essential—you need to stay in touch with past buyers and let them know when you have new work available.
