Why is having a long-term perspective so critical for an art business?
Artists with the creative gene never stop creating—they continue until they physically cannot, and they never lose the desire for their work to be seen and sold. This means most artists have 20, 30, 40, 50, or even 60+ years of career ahead. The graveyard of art hobbyists is filled with people who took a short-term perspective, expecting unrealistic results like immediate discovery or fame. Taking a long view means understanding you need to get the marketing basics right now, build consistent habits, and think in decades rather than months. You don’t want to reach your 80s or 90s having never learned fundamental marketing because you kept waiting for the perfect moment.
