How important are collector relationships to building a successful art business?
Collector relationships are absolutely critical to a profitable art career. A collector is someone who buys multiple pieces from you over their lifetime—seven or more pieces. When someone loves your work, it creates a bond that doesn’t go away. They’re not just buying the work; they’re buying you as a person—your energy, your passion, who you are. The art sale is about 50-50: half the quality of the work and half whether the buyer likes you as a person and feels a connection with you. Building and maintaining these relationships over time is the path to sustainable success.
