I'm feeling overwhelmed by all the tactical steps for shows. Do I really need to do everything?

It’s totally okay and normal to feel overwhelmed—many people do. You don’t have to do all of this at once or on your first show. Do what you can and work your way up to the entire playbook. As long as you do the two most important steps—properly sorting your inventory and pricing, and running the fishbowl technique—you’re 80% of the way there. You can bit by bit, step by step, level up and get going on all the rest. The difference between doing a show and dominating a show comes from these steps you do before, during, and after. Think of it this way: you might not learn to do all of this early in your career, and that’s fine. It might take three to five years to get here, and that’s okay. But this is how you get the most ROI out of a marketing effort. When you’re spending thousands on a booth and nuking your entire weekend or couple days of your life, why wouldn’t you want to give yourself as many opportunities to win? Crawl before you walk. Don’t let it overwhelm you.
