Why should I stop making decisions based on short-term timelines in my art business?

The sheer number of poor decisions artists make based on truncated timelines is staggering. People constantly ask ‘where will my business be in a month?’ or ‘if I spend $100 on ads, will I get $500 out?’ and then quit when immediate results don’t materialize. These short-term decisions ignore the reality that you have decades ahead in this business. Everything changes when you realize your actual timeline. It makes it much easier to do all the things you don’t want to do right now—like consistent marketing—because you understand you’re not trying to strike it rich next month, you’re building a sustainable business for the next 10, 20, 30, 40+ years. The marketing problem every artist has isn’t going away, so you might as well address it with the proper long-term perspective.
