What should my social media marketing actually look like?
Think of social media like attending a gallery opening. If you walked into an opening, you’d have wine and cheese, chat with people, get to know the artist as a person, ask normal questions, build a connection, and then the conversation would naturally move toward the work. That’s exactly what social media should be. Instead, most artists run what I call the ‘Art Gatling Gun’—nonstop posts of ‘here’s my art, here’s my art on the wall, here’s me creating my art, buy my art, contact me to buy my art.’ You would never walk up to someone at an opening and immediately pitch your art repeatedly. Stop running commercials 24/7. Social media needs programming (who you are as a person) and only occasionally commercials (your art for sale).
