Why is summer such an important selling season for art?

Summer is historically the second-best art selling time of the year, after the fourth quarter holiday season. There are several reasons: First, many people move during summer - relocating for jobs, school, downsizing, or upsizing - which creates fresh wall space that needs decorating. Second, people are simply out and about more when the weather is warm, especially those coming out of cold winters and springs in places like the Midwest and Northeast. Third, people’s wallets tend to be looser in warmer weather - they’re in better moods and more willing to spend. Retail activity increases across the board during summer, and art sales follow this pattern.
