How do I overcome being shy about posting personal content on social media when I'm great at one-on-one conversations?
Recognize that the rules haven’t changed just because it’s online—they’re the same rules as in person. You’re great in person, so just be great online. Start small: focus on posting something that has absolutely nothing to do with your art. It will feel awkward and weird at first, and you’ll struggle with it. But then you’ll get a little engagement and realize you can do a bit more. Then a bit more. Think of your posts as approximating those conversations you’re so good at having in person. You’re not trying to become a Kardashian or reality TV personality—you’re just being yourself and letting people get to know you. It’s about being vulnerable and putting yourself out there. Trial and error is the only way to grow, even though we’re all scared to fail. It’s not supposed to be easy or fun, especially at the beginning, but it’s necessary.
