How can I use social media more like a real conversation?

Think about how you’d interact with someone at a gallery opening. You wouldn’t walk up and just rapid-fire show them your art over and over. You’d have a normal conversation—introduce yourself, learn about them, share about yourself, talk about what inspires you, discuss the series you’re working on. Social media should work the same way. It’s meant to be a conversation. Share who you are, what’s going on in your life, why you create. Are you married? Do you have kids? What do you do when you’re not creating? Do you like being outside? Are you funny? These are things people can relate to and connect with. When you share your story and personality, you’re giving people something to identify with, something you likely have in common. That builds the know-like-trust factor, and then they actually want to see and buy your art.
