Why isn't my art selling on Instagram despite having a decent following?

The core issue is that most artists post only their artwork and creative process, making their profile one-dimensional. Instagram’s algorithm and human psychology both favor authentic human connection. Art sales are 50-50: half the merit of your work, half who you are as a person. People want to be friends with human beings, not businesses. If someone visits your profile and can only learn that you’re an artist, you’re failing to create the connections that lead to sales. You need to share aspects of your personality, hobbies, interests, and life beyond your art so potential buyers can connect with you as a person, not just evaluate your work as a product.
