Why is email marketing important for Q4 art sales, and how do I start if I don't have a list?

Email is still one of the primary revenue drivers in most art businesses and is more important than social media in many ways. The good news is everyone already has an email list—it starts with friends and family. Let these people know you exist as an artist, that you’re creating, and that you have work to sell. Never assume they know any of this. Email them now, ahead of the buying season, to get your effective frequency from zero to one. You cannot send your first email on October 1st and expect good results. Start emailing your list now about print giveaways, new pieces, your process, commissions, or anything relevant. Between now and Q4, also work on growing your list through in-person events, shows, fairs, or website pop-ups that capture emails.
