What types of businesses and revenue streams are considered part of the art business?
The art business is an umbrella term that includes many different revenue streams. You might be selling art or photography both offline and online, in any combination of originals, limited editions, open editions, commissions, or prints. It can include selling digital courses on art or photography, selling through galleries (both physical retail and online platforms), selling at art fairs and shows, selling direct to consumers, or selling to commercial buyers and interior designers. It also applies to sculpture, crafts, jewelry, and other art-related products. Importantly, it includes hybrid businesses where you might combine fine art sales with service work like portrait photography, wedding photography, teaching workshops, or art instruction. It doesn’t matter whether you’re full-time or running a side hustle—all of these count as the art business.
