How do social media algorithms actually work to show my content to the right people?

The algorithm is essentially a giant sorting machine that puts you in different ‘lanes’ on a massive freeway. When artists only post art, they get stuck in just 2 or 3 lanes, limiting their reach. But when you post yourself walking your dog, the algorithm puts you in the ‘likes walking dogs’ lane. If it’s a golden doodle, you’re in the golden doodle lane. Every authentic piece of content about your real life puts you in more lanes, expanding your reach. You want your content traveling in as many lanes as possible because that’s how you build a following and engagement. It’s not about specific techniques—it’s about being yourself authentically and letting people get to know you. That’s how the algorithm connects you with your tribe.
