Should I offer low-priced items like t-shirts and mugs, or does that hurt my credibility as a fine artist?

You should absolutely offer a range of pricing including lower-priced items. Having non-wall art and merchandise allows you to cast a much bigger net and acquire more customers. Tell me a museum you’ve been to that doesn’t have a gift shop—they all do. The most important metric for an art business is the number of new customers you acquire per year, and it’s much easier to get someone to buy again than to buy the first time. A 22-year-old might buy your $25 t-shirt, and eight years later when they have money and bare walls, they’ll remember you and buy a $2,000 piece. Low-ticket items are customer acquisition tools.
