What quality and setup do I need for product photos of handmade items like jewelry?

For small handmade items like jewelry, good lighting and a clean background are more important than expensive equipment. Use natural light or a simple light source, and photograph the piece on a neutral surface. The image should be sharp and show the item clearly. Beyond that, use multiple photos per product: one wide shot showing the whole piece, close-ups highlighting details (clasps, textures, unique elements), and if possible, a lifestyle shot (the item being worn or in context). Image quality doesn’t have to be studio-perfect, but it should be clear, well-lit, and show the craftsmanship. Multiple angles help customers appreciate the work and build confidence in the purchase.
