What are the two most viable paths for artists to make it today?

First, selling direct online—running your own art business with a website, learning to market yourself consistently through social media, email, and other channels. Second, doing in-person shows and fairs—paying booth fees, setting up for the weekend, spending time on your feet selling. You can combine both methods. The gallery model works for very few artists today, and marketplaces like online print sites rarely generate significant income beyond occasional sales. Those two paths—direct online sales and in-person events—are where most successful artists build sustainable businesses.
