Why is having a range of pricing so important for my art business?

Having a pricing range dramatically increases the number of new customers you acquire per year, which is the most important metric for future revenue potential. Compare two artists: Artist A only sells pieces from $500-$1,200 and acquires 7-10 customers per year. Artist B has a full range (under $100 non-wall art, $100-$1,000 prints and frames, over $1,000 originals) and acquires 70-90 customers per year doing the same marketing. At year-end sales, Artist B has 70-90 people to market to versus Artist A’s 7-10. This compounds at an alarming rate year after year. Additionally, humans make purchasing decisions based on comparison—a range helps buyers understand why your original costs $5,000 when they can see limited editions at $2,500 and prints at $600. It makes raising prices easier and reduces lowball offers.
