I feel uncomfortable being 'salesy' at art shows. How should I approach visitors?

Focus on having natural conversations, not ‘selling.’ When someone approaches and comments on your work, engage them: ask what interests them about it, what their favorite piece is, whether they’re already a collector, and if they have wall space at home. These conversational questions naturally lead to sales discussions without feeling pushy. The key is initiating and maintaining genuine conversations about the art. Set up your booth so you’re facing visitors (not with your back to them) so you can welcome them in. If you’re live painting, schedule it for specific hours only so you’re available to talk with potential buyers the rest of the time.
