Can I fulfill and ship prints myself instead of using print-on-demand, especially if customers want my signature?

Absolutely — you have complete granular control at both the macro and micro level. You can decide on an item-by-item basis whether orders get automatically fulfilled by a print vendor or whether you handle them yourself. For example, artists shipping originals obviously fulfill those themselves. For prints, here’s what works well: offer a cheaper option that’s not hand-signed (maybe with a digital signature or none), and let customers choose that if they want the best price. Then offer a more expensive hand-signed option. When someone orders the signed version, have the print vendor ship it to you first, gently open it, sign it, reseal the packaging, and ship it to the customer with a new label. Customers who want hand-signed pieces are almost always happy to pay more because you’re incurring an extra shipping charge and extra labor. Meanwhile, a larger group just wants the cheaper option and doesn’t care about the signature — they trust it’s from you. Let customers choose based on what matters to them.
