How should I think about the timeline for building my art business?

You need to think long-term. You’re going to be creating art for the rest of your life, as long as your body allows you to. Some artists are still creating into their 80s, 90s, and even past 100. That’s a profundity—most other vocations aren’t like that. When you realize you may have 20, 30, 40, 50, or more years ahead of you in this business, it should change how you make decisions. Don’t think about where your business will be in a week, month, or even a year. Think about where it will be in 3, 5, or 10 years. This long-term perspective should encourage you to start doing the hard things now—like consistent marketing—even if you don’t want to do them. You have plenty of time to get it right, so start building the right habits today.
