How important are stories behind artwork when selling, and how should I present them?
Stories are critically important and can be what closes the sale. Create small tags for each piece with a thumbnail image, title, location, price, and a short two or three line story about the picture. Many customers specifically appreciate having these stories available. When someone shows interest, be ready to share the full story behind the piece. In a competitive market where many artists have beautiful work, your unique story behind an image is what attracts buyers and differentiates you. Something in the story resonates with them - perhaps they traveled to that place, love that subject, or connect emotionally. The story is often as important as the work itself.
