What is the comparison between consistency in marketing and running a retail gallery?

If you owned a retail art gallery on Main Street or in a shopping mall, you would keep the doors open 5-6 days a week because you’re paying for a building and need money coming in—you have a real business. You’d open those doors even when you didn’t want to: when you didn’t want to get out of bed, when life happens, when there’s family issues, even when tragedy strikes. You’d do it because it’s a business, not a pie-in-the-sky hobby. Keeping that gallery open is a direct proxy for how consistent you are with your marketing. Your online art business is just an online version of that retail gallery. How many days a week do you have the ‘doors open’—meaning, how often are you engaging and getting new eyeballs on your work? You wouldn’t close a retail gallery for months at a time, yet artists go completely dark on marketing for months, which is exactly the same thing. Consistency is everything.
