What can I learn from Picasso about building an art business?
Picasso had 45,000 pieces of unsold work in his inventory when he died, which shows he was constantly experimenting and creating — trying every possible direction to find what worked. He also said early in his career, ‘My drawings did not command high prices, but they all moved. Your art must get out into the world.’ The lesson: keep creating and testing relentlessly, get your work into people’s hands even at low prices early on, and understand that finding your ‘hit’ subject matter is a process of massive experimentation, not a single inspired idea.
