What business knowledge do I need as a creative professional?

Many creative professionals suffer for years from lack of business knowledge because they only focused on creative skills. Essential business education includes: leadership skills with vision, passion, and kindness; marketing fundamentals; basic accounting and how to read profit and loss statements; and employee management. You don’t need a full business degree, but taking four or five key business classes and networking with business owners can prevent decades of struggle. Being a kind leader is particularly important for retaining staff and avoiding the revolving door of employees that many creative businesses experience.
